Gods of Jade and Shadow
In 1920s Yucatán, Casiopea Tun dreams of escaping the work and restrictions of her grandfather’s household. Opening a wooden box releases a Mayan god of death and binds her to a dangerous journey to help him reclaim his throne.
The route leads from southern Mexico to Mexico City and into the mythic underworld. This is explicitly a fantasy adventure, bringing Mexican folklore into contact with the music, movement and new possibilities of the Jazz Age, rather than offering a realist portrait of travel.
